We're pleased to introduce Luke Wohlford, EMRA Medical Student Council Southwest Regional Representative, 2020-2021.
Program: University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix
Your goal as an EMRA leader: This year I hope to further EMRA's outreach to the Southwestern region to make sure that more medical students know about the resources and opportunities that EMRA offers. I also hope to serve committees and promote the importance of prehospital medicine and bystander education efforts such as CPR and tourniquet use.
What is the best advice you've ever received?
I had given up on joining my college's EMS squad after being rejected for the second time, and I was telling a friend that I was going to move on and look at non-medical jobs. They told me not to give up, so I applied again and was accepted! This opportunity gave me thousands of hours of experience and pushed me toward emergency medicine.
Last non-textbook I read: "What If?" by Randall Munroe. He brings in physics and math (my secret loves) to bring wonderfully ridiculous explanations to equally absurd questions.
What's on your playlist?
I get into phases! Not too long ago I was in a rap phase, and I'm currently in a quiet female singer phase -- like FKA Twigs, Jay Som, and Nilüfer Yanya.
