Christian Holland, MD, Chair of the EMRA Sports Medicine Committee, 2025

christian hollandProgram: Allegheny General Hospital

Your goal as an EMRA leader: Continuing to help promote Emergency Medicine not only as a speciality but importantly on Sports Medicine. I want to help spread the information that is easily accessible and reasonable but also useful to my peers.

Why did you get involved in a professional society? I desire strongly to be apart of the change and want to know the new information that can potentially be practice changing. There is so much research and changes in our practice particularly in Emergency Medicine and I think I can learn from being exposed to all this newfound knowledge, and serve a role to help sift through what matters and what does not.

jacquelyn pearlmutterProgram: Creighton University of Arizona (Maricopa County)

Your goal as an EMRA leader: My goal as an EMRA leader is to continue to contribute to the success of the fields of both emergency medicine and sports medicine. I want to improve education for residents and inspire others to become passionate about different topics in emergency medicine.

Why did you get involved in a professional society? I have always aspired to be a leader in the communities I have been a part of. With my specific interests in sports medicine and ultrasound, I am currently involved in teaching about musculoskeletal ultrasound. I am also implementing a longitudinal nerve block curriculum for my residency, where I teach about how and why to perform ultrasound-guided nerve blocks. My goal is to ultimately publish this curriculum for other emergency medicine residents to use. I want to help develop the online musculoskeletal curriculum of EMRA by providing additional educational information to apply to the field of emergency medicine.

What is the best advice you have ever received? Throughout the years, I have received good advice from many people. One piece of advice that I found extremely helpful is to stop and take a breath. This applies to many situations, but most certainly applies to emergency medicine when it can become stressful at times. It is always important to stop and breathe to bring one back to the present moment.
