Director of Health Policy

Mariel Michaels, MD, MPH

Resident | University of Central Florida North Florida | Gainesville, FL

I am a current PGY-2 resident at UCF North Florida, and I am excited to apply for the Director of Health Policy position. I am eager to contribute to shaping impactful health policies for our field at the national level.

My clinical training as a resident and public health background has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing emergency medicine, from reimbursement issues to workforce shortages to ED overcrowding. I am particularly passionate about enhancing resident involvement in health policy and aim to make health policy less intimidating for residents to become involved in. Integrating residents into policy discussions enriches our advocacy efforts and prepares the next generation of leaders to address emergency medicine's ever-evolving needs.

In this role, I am committed to fostering active resident engagement in policy initiatives, developing strategic advocacy plans, and addressing the pressing issues within our field. My goal is to amplify the voices of emergency medicine residents and ensure their perspectives are integral to policy development.
Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to contribute to EMRA’s mission and advance our collective goals.
