EMRA & Vituity Equity Innovator Travel Scholarship

Description

Empowering future leaders in emergency medicine to drive positive change by supporting their attendance at the upcoming EMRA and ACEP conference . The Equity Innovator Scholarship celebrates leaders who are creating innovative solutions to address issues of equity and inclusion. This scholarship is given to individuals who are implementing groundbreaking initiatives and making a substantial difference in their communities.

Recipient Benefits

  • $1,500 travel stipend (to cover airfare & hotel for 3 nights)
  • Conference registration to ACEP24
  • Opportunity to attend EMRA Leader Meet Up at ACEP24
  • Opportunity to attend EMRA DEI Committee Meeting at ACEP24

Criteria

  • Applicant must be a PGY3 or PGY4 EM Resident.
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) for the nominee, which includes awards, scholarships, and scholastic achievements.
  • A personal statement by the nominee articulating their leadership efforts and/or engagement efforts in projects or initiatives addressing health disparities and/or the healthcare of racial and ethnic minorities, specific accomplishments, or achievements while in medical school or residency and a summary of the applicant’s plan to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and be an equity innovator supporting underserved communities.
  • Letter of support from program director to attend conference
  • Not already registered, purpose of the scholarship to create opportunity for residents that would otherwise not be able to attend
  • Scholarship winners will be required to submit a written testimonial post event (i.e., I attended ACEP24 and learned…and was able to implement into my practice…etc.). This creates marketing for 2025 and confirms attendance for 2024

Tips for Palliative Medicine Consults in the ED

Although most evaluations and interventions focus on providing life-sustaining interventions in the ED, emergency physicians must also be prepared to provide proper care to individuals who may not benefit from the introduction of life-sustaining interventions. Emergency physicians must have knowledge of palliative care and must be able to perform palliative care when indicated. In specific situations, a palliative care consultation may be helpful in initiating and coordinating care for patients who would benefit.
