TAKE-HOME POINTS

  • Continue to read and study, but take time for yourself to ensure your mental health. (But also: do your notes on time! That's actually wellness.)
  • The first year will be an uphill climb, but trust the process!
  • Get to know and build relationships with other medical and surgical services, it'll make your job a lot easier.
  • Learn to speak the languages of your consults; it will help broaden your negotiation skills with your consulting services. 
  • Carrying a relationship through residency can be difficult. Learn to lean on each other and communicate effectively to keep the relationship healthy.
  • Working alongside your significant other? It's best to keep things professional in the workplace!
