Take-Home Points
Medical training is a marathon, and just when you think you see the finish line, med school ends - and intern year looms. It's an exhilarating, exhausting, exciting experience for everyone (not just you).
- From a new city to a new hospital, intern year is a lot of change all at once. You are not alone if you feel overwhelmed!
- Intern year can be hard, but there is a lot of positive growth involved in the process. Take time throughout the year to reflect on the progress you have made.
- Time management both in and out of the hospital is one of the largest learning curves of intern year. It is important to take care of yourself and yes, while it is ok to take that day off to catch up on sleep, make sure you are also taking care of your physical and mental health by working out, finding enjoyable hobbies, and spending time with friends and family.
