Our emergency department has an annual census of about 130,000 visits, serving about 1.4 million people from the large geographic area of eastern North Carolina, spanning 29 counties, with many of these counties having relatively few healthcare resources. The following are some of the features about our facility:

  • 58 bed main Emergency Department, with 7 additional psychiatric observation area
  • 16 bed Pediatric Emergency Department
  • 10 bed Minor Care Emergency Department
  • One of the busiest PCI centers in the state
  • The only Level I trauma center in the catchment area
  • Designated Stroke Center
